Yoga for Health

Yoga has been used for feeling good and optimizing health for millennia, but recently many more people are turning to yoga for its health benefits. On the surface, it could be said that the breathing techniques bring the benefits of added oxygen into the bloodstream, and subsequently to the entire body - stretching keeps the muscles healthy and limber - and the energy techniques may boost and balance the electrical aspects of the body.   But most practitioners think there is even more to it. In any case, most people just feel great when they practice yoga daily. Just ask anyone who practices, or has practiced yoga.

Regular yoga practice can help in weight management. Fat metabolism is increased, so fat is converted to muscle and energy. This means that, as well as losing fat, you will have better muscle tone and a higher vitality level.  Yoga exercises induces more continuous and deeper breathing which gradually burns, sometimes forcefully, many of the calories already ingested. The deep breathing also makes the body more alkaline.

Studies conducted at yoga institutions have reported great success in improving asthma. It has also been proved that asthma attacks can usually be prevented by yoga methods without resorting to drugs. Studies also show it can relieve the symptoms of several common and potentially life-threatening illnesses such as arthritis, arteriosclerosis, chronic fatigue, diabetes, AIDS, and obesity.

Yoga exercises have been used to provide relief to joints.  Easy stretches and deep breathing relieve the tension that binds up the muscles and further tightens the joints. Yoga is exercise and relaxation rolled into one (the perfect anti-arthritis formula).
